| Hello my friends, I hope you and your family/circle are well! Happy Summer to those that celebrate! You know it’s going fast. Next week will be July already. 7 weeks till the Ex which for those of us born and bred in Toronto represents the beginning of the end of summer. Let’s make the most of it guys! Next Saturday’s Party is exciting as we’ll have about half a dozen routines being performed, followed by a Foxtrot Group and then our social dance. We’ll also have our Saturday Night Star Promotion in place. Please read below. Saturday Night Star Promotion We’re in process of creating a program wherein if you’ve experienced and were able to do the complete syllabus of a dance throughout the year from the dance parties, you’ll receive a free private lesson. As an example for next week’s Foxtrot group class, I’ll be showing two Bronze patterns (one the basic) and one Silver. For those that attended, they will get a star beside that pattern on their individualized sheet. Once all the patterns in that dance have been completed (15), you’ll receive a FREE private lesson revieing all the patterns. This can only enhance your dancing! Saturday Dance Birthday Promotion In order to continue to build some fun, if your birthday falls within a week of our Saturday Night Parties, you’ll get in for free (be prepared to bring your I.D. however). Saturday Dance Attendance Promotion If you come 10 times (paid) within a three month period, you’ll get a free pass to a party Saturday Dance Wheel It’s Back! Thanks Veronique for chipping in!! If you have a promotional item you want to give out at one of the parties, let me know. Whether it’s a percentage off card at your business or other chachkas, it always enhances the evening vibe. Saturday Night Line Dance Every party will have at least one line dance featuring the dance that was taught that night. Summer Dance Camp for Kids/Teens Did you know we have one of the strongest dance programs for kids in the GTA and it’s only getting busier thanks to Irina? The intention of these camps is to give them a wonderful opportunity to engage in a healthy, challenging and interactive activity. The two weeks are July 11 – July 15 and August 1-August 5. Thanks to everyone that sent a note regarding my contracting Covid. It was heartfelt. As I said in last weeks newsletter, I’ve had worse hangovers and it’s now long past. The one thing I do find interesting is that I have a much clearer mind and have more energy than before Covid. I’ve wanted to bury my head in the sand and stop listening to all the noise that’s happening on the planet but I don’t think that’s the answer either. | Hello my friends, I hope you and your family/circle are well! Last week I had mentioned that I had completed the rotation and listed the different Saturday night groups before the parties. I also stated that Country 2 Step wouldn’t be on the rotation, however Veronique reminded that it’s a fun dance and we could even make a night of it. It’s a great idea and I’ve changed things around to include it. June 18th – Back to Summer Party Anyone interested in adding Paso Doble one night? (As a Reminder – No Partner is required for our Saturday Night Group/Parties) BTW all of the dances taught are in American style which is a socially acceptable style for general dancing. For those of you however that are looking for an International style (leaning more for competitions but not necessarily so) we do teach those in private lessons. If anyone else ever has any suggestions regarding enhancing the studio’s ‘product’, please feel to reach out. Although I’ve owned a ballroom/latin studio longer than anyone else in the GTHA (22 years) and I’m also a judge. it doesn’t mean that I’m always on top of things. | I’ve updated the Calendar so it lists the different dances being offered Saturday Nights. Of course I believe you should experience them all, however this will allow you to highlight the ones you love. A couple of them are tentative as it’s important that the dances being offered are the ones you’re actively seeking to learn. I have omitted some that we teach, such as bolero and country 2 step, however I may bring in the latter at some point because it’s a lot of fun. The school’s policy is that no masks are required, however please feel free to wear one if that is your choice. | I was going through the “books” last week and found that there are still 7 people with private or semi private lessons that haven’t yet returned. That’s still a significant number. It would be nice to have everyone back and dancing however we all have our realities. I’m still not having much success in attracting people to our group classes so I’m going to put those on hold for a little while longer. I know that most understand the value of private lessons vs groups (money spent vs time to achieve the same result) in terms of learning how to dance, but there is the social component as well which is why I think the Saturday dances (next week is Foxtrot) are a happening event. Hopefully some of you will be back again in one form or another sooner rather than later. Humour of the week Sadly I was watching the Oscars and a Hockey Game broke out Commentary Speaking of Oscars, I’ve heard it said that actors, when they get ready for their roles, need to completely absorb themselves into that character. Some have issues afterwards letting that character go and need therapy to help readjust. It could be that this is what happened to Will Smith. His career is could be finished. I’ve always enjoyed watching the transformation of individuals who come in to learn Ballroom Dance on a regular basis. When people are on the floor there is a certain grace and poise that one develops with the hope of taking it into the world. It’s so nice to see you in person. :)Now that the restrictions are lifted, it gives me a chance to see where the studio actually is in terms of it’s operation. The studio’s foundation is in place and stronger than ever. We have the best staff we’ve had in a long time, the Saturday Night Group/Social Dances are happening, private lessons are ongoing with positive results, tax credits are being offered for some, events are scheduled, outings for private lesson people are being organized, parents/grandparents with young kids/teens are filling up spots, Belly Dance Classes are ongoing, teacher certification is on the go, some students are readying themselves for competitions, some students are passing their levels, we’re now introducing our 8 week groups again and restrictions have been lifted. Upon reflection and inspection, the studio’s foundation is as solid as it’s ever been. Now I’m allowing it to grow. One of the reasons it’s so solid is that I’ve always followed the input given by you and I’m always open to hearing what you have to say. My honest suggestion to you is that you start to venture out to our parties consistently on Saturdays. Whether you’re a single or a couple it’s a nice way to meet others. It may feel a little awkward the first couple times, but give it a chance. Let’s build this community from the base up. Come out and mingle and introduce yourself to the rest of the world. | Hello my friends, I Hope you and your family/circle are all healthy! With the studio still under modified phase 2 restrictions, I feel like a traffic cop – directing people here and there and reminding people of the rules. My father would have been proud of me as his vision for me was either army or police. He must of really scratched his head when I entered the dance industry. Of course I also consider that I was forced into the role of tax collector, as the second I charge HST I have to submit it therefore giving me that role. Includes the Thalamus, Hippocampus, and Amygdala. Every living thing has to have a mid-brain.Pons– part of the metencephalon in the hindbrain. It is involved in motor control and sensory analysis… for example, information from the ear first enters the brain in the pons. It has parts that are important for the level of consciousness and for sleep. Some structures within the pons are linked to the cerebellum, thus are involved in movement and posture. Medulla Oblongata – this structure is the caudal-most part of the brain stem, between the pons and spinal cord. | Hello my friends,I hope all is well with you and your family/circle! I hope you’ve all been well and have not gained too much weight since you were last in the studio :). I’m feeling positive that the school will be in a stronger position than before and a lot of it had to do with you!!. It’s so nice to begin being active again and we are open for private lessons. Here’s the protocol moving forward and this will be tweaked every week so please stay aware.Everyone entering should wear a mask. Sanitize hands at front entrance. Move down the hall to the ballroom to change shoes. There will be chairs/benches at the front and back end of the ballroom for this. Do not leave bags and such on the floor or bring jackets into the room. Please hang them in the hallway. Purses are okay to leave in the ballroom. Please place your shoes underneath the chair that you’ve chosen – not strewn in front. If you see a pair of shoes underneath a chair, don’t use that one to put on your own shoes. Use a different one. The benches should be for couples.No lingering. Enter studio 5 minutes before lesson and leave within 5 minutes after lesson. We all have different dynamics when it comes to living arrangements and comfort levels so physical contact with the teacher to be based on the individual teachers and your comfort level.Washrooms at the studio to be used as a last resort. Door handles to be sanitized upon entering and exiting. The back door can be used for exiting to avoid others. Please check with teacher I’m unsure of the Saturday parities moving forward however suggestions are coming in regarding booking in advance and keeping socially distanced. | I’ve always found that this time of year offers a certain energy and i can feel it in the studio. It’s a type of quickening and intensity that isn’t found in the summer. The Fall colours are always so beautiful but it also means the cooler weather is just around the corner and I have to start looking around for carpets and bring in coat racks again for the front hallway again. I missed all of you and I’d still rather live here than anywhere else in the world! By the way are you coming to the election party Monday the 21st or are you staying at home passively? A Different Perspective China is an amazing country and will certainly surpass the U.S. in terms of global powers in the next few years. Cash is quickly becoming a thing of the past as most pay through their phone and n the next 5 years, people will be paying through facial recognition software. I found the people there well informed and not as socially repressed as the West seems to propagate. Some had a balanced view point and were open to discussions ranging from all sorts of political topics including Hong Kong, media access and the likes. Although I don’t believe one country should have the balance of power, at this point they do seem to be a little more stable than others and have been able to lift over 700 million people out of poverty in the last decade. I remember reading somewhere many years ago that the best government is an incompetent one as it offers more freedoms than one that is on top of everything. Maybe that’s why Canada is my country of choice 🙂 |
